Red Wing Arts Clay & Creative Center to Open in Red Wing's West End District

Red Wing Arts, a key strategic partner of Downtown Main Street, announces the opening of an additional location in April of 2022. Red Wing Arts Clay & Creative Center is located at 1920 Old West Main St., Red Wing, a historic location of Red Wing Pottery Stoneware building. Red Wing Stoneware and Pottery stopped producing three years ago, leaving a big gap in the local clay community.

“We’re so excited to bolster the significance of clay and the legacy of its artform in our community,” Red Wing Arts executive director Emily Guida Foos says. “We have heard from many that more opportunities are needed. Our expansion is based on that feedback and the tremendous endorsement we’ve received from the community.”

The 6600 square foot center will showcase the diversity of clay art, feature a sales room for retail sales, and exhibition space that highlights the region’s creatives.

Under the direction of Christy Dicksonson, Special Initiatives Director, Red Wing Arts Clay & Creative Center is located in Red Wing’s West End District, an area which is experiencing renewal and reconstruction.

Old West Main Reconstruction Project

On November 23, 2020, the City Council approved the Old West Main reconstruction project, and in 2021 roadway and utility work was completed on Phase 1 (T.H. 61 to Washington Street). Phase 2 (Washington Street to Buchanan Street) will begin in early 2022 with anticipated completion to be in August of 2022.

Following the December 14, 2020, City Council meeting, Council members voted and approved the proposed Bike-Pedestrian Bridge according to the plans and specifications presented by the City Engineer. The Bike-Pedestrian Bridge, which connects Old West Main and Bay Point Park was completed in October of 2021.

Upper Harbor Renewal Project

The proposed project would realign Levee Road, add more parking in the Bay Point Park area, and provide more walkways and pathways for pedestrian connections and access. Plans would also include a new park event lawn space and a natural lawn amphitheater.
