We recently chatted with John Rohan about living in and owning a business in Red Wing just as they announced selling the Ferrin’s Furniture building in downtown Red Wing, as the listing agent.

“Red Wing Homes for Sale started in 2011, which was an interesting time in real estate because if you look at the history of the last 35 years, it was one of the toughest times in the real estate industry. The market was at one of its lowest points and John thought, "Well, if my business can make it now, we will be okay, we will make it.” Since then we’ve been able to achieve substantial market growth which is a testament to what we believe and are trying to accomplish here."

John went on to say, "I think a lot of our success has to do with working as a team. The concept is, if you work with us, you have five people working on your behalf. That’s ultimately better for you, our clients, as well as our team members. As a team, it's provided greater quality of life, as you have somebody to share the workload with, along with the challenges, and successes of the business. Ultimately, what’s most important, is that working together as a team is best for our clients and that always comes first.”

John reflects on how the industry has changed and how they have been able to adapt.

“I strongly believe that the industry is changing through its use of technology, social media, and team-based approaches to doing business. In order to provide the high level of services that clients need in today’s competitive market, a single agent simply can’t do it all at the level of professional standards we subscribe to. Oftentimes, when selling or purchasing a home, it represents the largest asset of an individual’s lifetime. It’s our job to make it a comfortable experience and mitigate the stresses & inevitable issues that often arise when buying or selling a home. This can be challenging, but it’s our job to create as smooth a transition as possible.”

“Developing trusting relationships with our clients is one of the most important parts of our jobs. Anybody who knows our team knows that we are in it for the long haul. We're not in it for one deal or transaction. That's not what this is about. We're going to be there for you whether it’s tomorrow or 10 years from now, regardless of when you determine you are ready to make another change. I believe that kind of long-term vision really helps."

Red Wing Homes for Sale is a family business, and we were curious about what that meant to them.


"As far as being a family business, I'm just thrilled about the opportunity for this company to continue beyond me. It’s an exciting experience to work with my kids and see them grow in the business. I also think it's good for the community because we're a local business that embraces change and can adapt. We're simply not afraid of taking on new challenges. We often ask ourselves, 'Where is the business going and how do we need to adapt? How do we need to lead?'"

John wrapped it up with this:

"I believe one of the greatest things about my continuing career is the opportunity to meet people that can become lifelong friends, which I’m lucky to have done. Some of those friendships all started with a real estate transaction, some up to 35 years ago. It's the most amazing opportunity to be part of their story with the added bonus of making lifelong friends along the way. That's one of the most amazing things about this business - the opportunity to meet so many wonderful people and to have them in your life. I think it's just an incredible thing and I am so very grateful."
